Summer 2016

The Central Society continues to meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Our meeting in May was sponsored by Essilor and Jessica Estes gave an informative presentation on the dangers of blue light. Our June meeting is scheduled for June 28th, sponsored by Menicon. If there are any questions about our monthly meetings, please email [email protected].

Greater Ozark Optometric Society (GOOS)
Trustee: Kory Scullawl, OD

In April, the Missouri Eye Institute hosted a continuing education event at Metropolitan Grill, in Springfield, MO and the society had our regular business meeting and the CE event on the same evening.

Our May society meeting was sponsored by Ryan Hallum, with Bausch and Lomb contact lenses.

We had several GOOS members attend the Koster for Governor Fundraiser at the MOA Leadership retreat in June. The GOOS society donated $500 and several members contributed personally. We do not plan on meeting over the summer and will pick back up in August/September.

Southeast Optometric Society (SEOS)
Trustee: Doug Nousaka, OD

The SEOS met on May 18th. It was our first meeting after our presidential visit with Dr. Jeff Gamble. Members were proud to hear of our legislative successes in the house and the senate, and have fingers crossed that our bills get signed. For many years, our society has met in Dexter, MO for our meetings because it is centrally located in our region. The SEOS generally meets 6 times per year, in odd numbered months. When reaching out for support for our local of our local meetings, a few members had stated that they do not come to our meetings because the travel distance is too far. To address their concerns, the decision was made to have a few meetings per year at other locations.

This year, two meetings will be held in Cape Girardeau. We are considering another location for one of our meetings next year. Our next meeting will be hosted by Dan Meinert of X-Cel Contacts and Dr. Ryne Wood of Leet EyeCare. They have put together a scleral lens workshop for our members to be hosted at Leet EyeCare in Cape Girardeau on July 20, 2016. The SEOS also is planning a Legislative Appreciation banquet in Cape Girardeau. We still have not decided whether to hold it in September or November.

Southwest Optometric Society (SWOS)
Trustee: Jeremy Fast, OD

The Southwest Optometric society did not meet this past quarter. We have rescheduled our presidential visit for August 2, 2016 in Joplin, Missouri. We look forward to hosting MOA President, Jeff Gamble and MOA Executive Director, Dr. Lee Ann Barrett.

West Central Optometric Society (WCOS)
Trustee: Kyle Johnson, OD

The WCOS did not formally meet during the past quarter. We have been communicating frequently via e-mail on the latest MOA news and developments.
