Kansas City Optometric Society (KCOS)
Trustee: Alan Wegener, OD

In our May society meeting, Sean Powell, O.D., was sponsored by Alcon to keep us up to date with their advanced IOLs. This presentation was very appreciated by the doctors in attendance due to pointers given on how to review a patient’s IOL options before they have to make a snap decision at the surgeon’s office.

On June 1st we held the annual legislative BBQ, changing the venue to Loose Park near downtown, and it was attended well by ODs. The society takes a break for the summer, resuming activity in the fall.

For more information or if you have questions regarding our society, email [email protected] or talk to any Kansas City society member!

The NEOS met on March 3 at AJ’s in Macon for our presidential visit. Due to the weather, Dr. Burks was unable to attend. Dr. Barrett was present to update us on the current MOA events and legislation. Our next meeting will be over the summer. The NEOS is looking at sponsoring a Legislative Barbecue.

Southeast Optometric Society (SEOS)
Trustee: Dan Obermark, OD

The Southeast Optometric Society regularly meets each third Wednesday of odd numbered months.

The March meeting was hosted by Coopervision when MOA President Dr. Scott Burks and MOA Executive Director Dr. LeeAnn Barrett joined our society to discuss legislative issues.

Our May meeting was hosted by Alcon. The legislative session had just completed and we discussed the events from Jefferson City. On a positive note Representative Richardson has been sworn-in as Speaker and Senators Wallingford and Romine both had impact in this year’s victories. We hope to build on each of these relationships for next year’s momentum. We will host a fundraiser for Speaker Richardson August 12th. We plan on a legislator application banquet in November.

Southwest Optometric Society (SWOS)

The Southwest Optometric Society has not met since February 3rd, when we met at Mythos restaurant in Joplin, Missouri, for our presidential visit. At that meeting, the MOA executive director, Lee Ann Barrett, and MOA President, Scott Burks, we’re in attendance and spoke to the group. Karen Burks also presented information in regards to the MOA auxiliary.
