Holiday 2015

Central Missouri Optometric Society (COS)
Trustee: Chris DeRose, OD

The Central Society continues to meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Our September meeting was hosted by Tim McGarity, MD. Dr. McGarity gave a tour of his new facility and a presentation on new developments in cataract surgery procedures. Our October meeting was sponsored by Vistakon at 44 Stone Pub.

The entire Central Society would like to congratulate Dr. Jeff Gamble and wish him luck as he takes over the reins of MOA president.

Greater Ozark Optometric Society (GOOS)
Trustee: Kory Scullawl, OD

Greater Ozarks Optometric Society welcomed Dr. Carol Scott at our September meeting. Dr. Scott who is a fellow in COVD gave an update on amblyopia therapy including some new treatment methods.

We held our legislative thank you dinner on Oct 27th at the Hotel Vandivort in downtown Springfield. We had seven representatives and Senator Jay Wasson who attend as our guests. Senator Wasson has sponsored Optometric legislation in the past. We also had a good turnout of GOOS optometrists at the MOA conference in Kansas City.

We will not meet in December because of the Christmas Holiday. We will host MOA President Jeff Gamble in January.

Kansas City Optometric Society (KCOS)
Trustee: Alan Wegener, OD

The Kansas City society got off to a great start this fall!
Dr. Anthony DeWilde, O.D., came to our September meeting and presented on giant cell arteritis over a fantastic meal at Californos in the Westport area. Our October meeting was held at Gordon Biersch, in Leawood, KS. John Metzger, O.D., presented on Low Vision. Both meetings were well attended by the society.

The day after the Royals nailed down a World Series Championship, MOA president Jeff Gamble visited for our November meeting. He brought with him a poignant perspective on the state of optometry and what direction we need to move in to keep up with the ever-changing healthcare landscape. His presentation was very appreciated by our society.
Our December meeting will be at Amigoni Urban Winery as a time to celebrate the year, and we are very grateful to
Sutherlin Optical for their sponsorship of this fellowship opportunity.

For membership or general information regarding our society, email [email protected] or talk to any Kansas City society member!

The November meeting was also unique in that we were visited by our newly appointed MOA president and Executive Director. MOA president Dr. Jeff Gamble gave an update on the state of optometry in Missouri and his objectives for the year. The CE he provided was titled “Jurisprudence”. MOA Executive Director Dr. LeeAnn Barrett also gave members an update on our profession in Missouri.

Southeast Optometric Society (SEOS)
Trustee: Doug Nousaka, OD

SEOS had a successful fundraiser for Speaker of the House, Todd Richardson, back on August 12, 2015. We raised over $30,000 for the event. Speaker Richardson was most grateful and highly impressed by the number of folks that drove great distances to attend.

The SEOS had scheduled a legislative dinner for all of our legislators, representatives and senators alike, in Cape Girardeau for November 18, 2015. This event has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts from several legislators. Some individual members of the society have offered to take legislators out to lunch, to discuss legislative issues until the legislative appreciation dinner can be rescheduled.

We want to let everyone know that a SEOS member, Dr. Dan Obermark, has decided to serve as Secretary of the MOA board. Our society supports Dr. Obermark and wishes him success as he travels through the chairs as an officer on the MOA Board. The new SEOS trustee is Dr. Doug Nosacka. There will be an election of new SEOS officers at our January society meeting.
